Industrial Piping
Expansion bellows are crucial parts in industrial piping systems, providing movement and flexibility while preserving system integrity. In high-pressure scenarios, additional reinforcement may be required to keep the bellows in place. Reinforcing or equalizing rings are employed for this purpose.
Reinforcing rings support bellows under high internal pressure, preventing squirming and ensuring even distribution of movement across all convolutions.
Reinforcement Ring Material
Reinforcement rings, made from solid round bars or endless coils, help to equalize movement within the bellows and are typically made from stainless steel alloys like 1.4301, 1.4571, or Hastelloy.
1.4301 (AISI 304 Stainless Steel)
1.4301 is a versatile austenitic stainless steel known for its good corrosion resistance. It performs reliably in various atmospheric and mild chemical environments, making it suitable for numerous industrial applications.
1.4571 (AISI 316Ti Stainless Steel)
1.4571 is a titanium-stabilized variant of the 316 stainless grade. The addition of titanium helps prevent carbide precipitation at higher temperatures, maintaining both corrosion resistance and mechanical properties under more demanding conditions.
Hastelloy (e.g., Hastelloy C-4; C-276)
Hastelloy alloys, such as C-4 and C-276, are nickel-molybdenum-chromium materials famed for their exceptional corrosion resistance in aggressive environments, including those with chlorides and oxidizers. They offer reliable protection against pitting, crevice corrosion, and stress corrosion cracking.
Ring Diameter and Sizes
These reinforcing and equalizing rings can be incorporated into any type of expansion joint, whether it be axial, lateral, or angular. While these rings provide added strength and stability to the bellows, they do come with the drawback of increased stiffness and limited movement.
When it comes to sizing, rings can be produced in a variety of wire sections, ranging from 2.5mm to 8.0mm, with custom sizes available upon request.
Additionally, these rings can be tailored to fit specific pipe diameters, with standard sizes ranging from DN 25 to DN 800.
